I would like to take the time to briefly introduce myself to all of the parents out there. My name is Andy Holmes, or Señor Holmes, whichever you prefer is fine. I am a High School Spanish teacher in the Portland Public School district. My experience with the Spanish language and Education has been rich and varied over the years. Since beginning my Spanish education in the 7th grade I have earned a Bachelor's degree in International Studies and Spanish Language Studies from the University of Oregon. I have also spent two years living abroad in Spain. One year was spent in a Spanish Language study abraod program through the U of O; and the other was spent teaching English in Spanish public schools as a post-graduation overseas experience.
Due to my love for learning and my experiences in the American as wel as Spanish classrooms I jumped right into the Graduate Teacher Education Program at Portland State University. There I worked to hone my skills and construct the most balanced and inclusive Spanish curriculum that I could. It is my hope to present the Spanish Language to your kids as an opportunity and an avenue for getting to know the world better, and from a new perspective. Studying a second language can open up the world for us if we let it!
